Steven Rowley and Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke

On this episode, we are re-airing one of our favorite episodes from the vault! Join us as the Fab Four talk to Steven Rowley about his 2023 novel The Celebrants, and to Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke about their 2023 novel Forever Hold Your Peace. Steven Rowley is the NYT-bestselling author of six novels including The Guncle, winner of 2021’s Thurber Prize for American Humor. His fiction has been published in twenty languages and all of his books are in development for feature film or television adaptation. In this episode, he joined us to discuss his NYT bestseller and Read With Jenna Book Club pick, The Celebrants. Steven’s got a new novel, Take Me With You, coming on May 19th. Best friends for more than three decades, Liz & Lisa have co-authored eight novels in addition to hosting a podcast, and appearing monthly on a San Diego news station to share their favorite book club picks. In this episode we discussed their Father of the Bride meets Bride Wars rom-com Forever Hold Your Peace. We hope you’ll check out their latest novel, The Naysayers, which was released earlier this year. So, as you prep for your Memorial Day weekend festivities, tune in for this interview, now with a brand-new introduction from Kristin Harmel.

Celebrating Road Trip LIVE with Mary Kay Andrews

Weekly News from Friends & Fiction—May 27, 2026

Tune in LIVE at 7pm ET tonight for this week’s episode!

Join us on Wednesday, May 27th LIVE at 7pm Eastern on the F&F Facebook page and YouTube channel as the full F&F family gathers to celebrate the launch of our very own “undisputed queen of beach reads,” (Southern Living) NYT-bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews’s new book, Road Trip, which is, of course, our June Pick of the Month!

A former journalist with a fourteen-year career in newspapers, including a decade as a reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, MKA is the NYT-bestselling author of thirty-four novels and a cookbook. Her novel, Summers at the Saint is currently in development with Universal Studios. She joins us before heading out on a massive book tour to discuss her most personal novel to date in which two estranged sisters honor their mother’s dying wish to take a road trip to Ireland to uncover the provenance of a mysterious and potentially priceless family portrait. Publishers Weekly says Road Trip “sparkles,” and Library Journal calls it “a delightful tale with vivid characters.” We can’t wait to celebrate in grand F&F style complete with games, a signature cocktail, and lots of laughs.

Join us for the LIVE video broadcast of this interview as it airs on Wed 5/27 at 7pm ET on the F&F Facebook group page & YouTube channel. Catch the audio version on our podcast Fri 5/29.

Latest News from the Fab Four!

MARY KAY ANDREWS spent the Memorial Day weekend dodging raindrops, doing last minute shopping with daughter-in-law Meghan for her ROAD TRIP book tour—travel umbrella, check, comfy airport shoes, check, air-vac compression bags for suitcase packing, check. Saturday she joined her extended family to celebrate a high school graduation. A fun dinner with friends on Sunday, and brunch with son Andy and wife on Monday. MKA’s so excited to finally launch ROAD TRIP with the F&F gang tonight. She also announced a fun giveaway for the in-person Savannah F&F event on June 3. Every ticket-buyer to the Savannah event will be entered into a drawing to win a two-night stay at a dreamy restored vacation rental townhouse in historic downtown Savannah, courtesy of her friends at Lucky Savannah Vacation Rentals. Go here to buy tickets.

KRISTIN HARMEL spent the weekend celebrating her mother’s birthday (along with her brother and his family), and then on Memorial Day, she spent the day with her family and friends at Discovery Cove, where she swam with a dolphin and snorkeled with stingrays and tropical fish. What a weekend! She’s so excited to be launching MKA’s ROAD TRIP on the show this week–and to meet up with her Friends & Fiction friends next week in Savannah for MKA’s in-person celebration!

KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY is so grateful to everyone for all your support of SUMMER STATE OF MIND, which just had its second week on the USA TODAY Bestseller List! Hooray! She had the best start to summer with friends and family on the water, and couldn’t be more thrilled for her favorite season to be beginning. She absolutely LOVED MKA’s ROAD TRIP and is so excited to celebrate the launch! She will miss all of you in real life in Savannah because—unbelievably—her son’s 8th Grade Graduation is that day. But she will be there in spirit and knows it will be fabulous!

PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY is thrilled to help MKA launch her book ROAD TRIP into the world! Join us tonight for the shenanigans. Patti had a great time in Simsbury CT at a library event and then a beautiful Memorial Day weekend with her family boating, pooling (as if that’s a verb) and finishing her page proofs!

Latest News from the Fab Four!

KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY is heading home from her last stop on this first round of SUMMER STATE OF MIND tour dates. She is SO grateful to everyone who came out to see her on the road and to all of you who have already purchased your copies of the book. What a gift you are! That said… The fun isn’t over, and there are plenty more times to see Kristy, so check out her tour dates. Also, if you’re on the fence, check out this exclusive excerpt in People. Plus, she absolutely loves writing personal essays. It’s how she got her start in writing! This piece in Country Living about a kind strawberry farmer was so fun to write, and she hopes you enjoy it!

MARY KAY ANDREWS is crossing off ALL the things on her pre-tour to-do list before she sets off on her ROAD TRIP. Events are selling out fast but tickets are still available (as of today) for the kick-off luncheon on Friday May 29 with Litchfield Books in Pawley’s Island, SC, with an evening event just up the road at Silver Coast Winery. The big Atlanta launch party on Sunday May 31 with Bookbird of Avondale Estates–when MKA will be in convo with the wildly entertaining but unpredictable Karin Slaughter is almost at capacity. And there are still seats available for the Friends & Fiction Live Savannah show with the whole F&F crew (except Kristy Woodson Harvey who gets a hall pass because it’s her son’s middle school graduation) on Weds. June 3 with E.Shaver Books. See MKA’s complete tour schedule here.

KRISTIN HARMEL can’t believe her son only has one more week of 4th grade… Kristin is volunteering today for his end-of-year class party. She’s also looking forward to celebrating her mom’s birthday this weekend at—where else?—Disney World. She’s putting the final touches on her July/August tour for MEET ME IN PARIS, and she looks forward to sharing all her tour dates with you soon!

PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY just received her first pass pages (these pages are the first time an author sees her work in the same format as the book)! She has also seen the cover and can’t wait to share everything SOON! She spent the weekend in Fairhope, AL at a wedding and a fascinating conversation with Kathryn Stockett about her newest, The Calamity Club. Photos here! This week, she’ll be in CT at an event and then off to celebrate Memorial Day with her family!

Friends & Fiction: Episode 321 – Kathryn Stockett

Kathryn Stockett

On this episode, Patti Callahan Henry & Mary Kay Andrews welcome the multimillion-copy-selling author of The Help, Kathryn Stockett, to discuss The Calamity Club, her bold, big-hearted new novel about a group of unbreakable women, fighting for what’s rightfully theirs—and the power of friendship to change everything. Kathryn Stockett was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from the University of Alabama, she moved to New York City, where she worked in magazine publishing and marketing. Her first novel, The Help—a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don’t—was a #1 New York Times bestseller that has sold over 15-million copies worldwide and was the basis for the Academy Award-winning film. Seventeen years after this cultural phenomenon, Stockett returns with a new novel that Oprah Daily calls, “so immersive, exciting, and downright fabulous, you never want it to end.” We cannot wait to talk to her about this eagerly anticipated book that Bonnie Garmus calls “a must-read,” Adriana Trigiani calls, “terrific,” and the New York Times calls, “heart-wrenching [and] often hilarious.”

KRISTIN HARMEL is back home after a whirlwind trip to France last week with her family. Paris is always a highlight, of course, but this time, she was very moved to get to visit Normandy, where she, Jason, and 10-year-old Noah toured D-Day sites including Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Brecourt Manor, and the American Cemetery with a private guide (Malcolm Clough, who was absolutely fabulous–Kristin would recommend him to anyone planning to visit Normandy!). In Reims, the center of the Champagne region (where The Winemaker’s Wife is set), she, Jason, and Noah got to visit Notre Dame de Reims (the stunning cathedral where 25 kings of France were coronated) and the G.H. Mumm Champagne house for a tour. And in Paris, they had some fabulous meals out, got to see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, picnicked under the Eiffel Tower, and even took a quick half-day trip out to Disneyland Paris (45 minutes from Paris by train). She wishes they could have stayed longer, but as usual, Paris has refilled her creative tank, and she’s back at her desk, diving headfirst into writing her 2028 novel! She hopes all the moms in Friends & Fiction world had a great Mother’s Day!

PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY had a lovely long weekend in the North Carolina mountains where her new book is set and spent Mother’s Day with family and being spoiled! She is so excited for y’all to watch the interview with Kathryn Stockett tonight, and if you’re anywhere near Fairhope, AL this weekend, Patti will be interviewing Kathryn live at Page and Palette. Meanwhile she is slowly slowly slowly putting her office back together after cleaning it shoveling it out for a new paint job!

Friends & Fiction: Episode 320 – Christina Baker Kline

Christina Baker Kline

On this episode, Patti Callahan Henry & Kristy Woodson Harvey welcome #1 NYT-bestselling author Christina Baker Kline to discuss her new historical novel, The Foursome, a boldly original reimagining of the astonishing true story of two sisters in nineteenth-century North Carolina — Kline’s own distant relatives — who married world-famous conjoined twins from Siam. Christina is the author of ten novels, including the New York Times bestsellers Orphan Train, The Exiles, and A Piece of the World. Her novels have received the New England Society Book Award for Fiction and the Maine Literary Award among other prizes. Born in England and raised in the American South and Maine, she divides her time between New York City and coastal Maine. She joins us before embarking on book tour to discuss her highly anticipated new novel, The Foursome, which has earned starred reviews across the board from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, and Booklist, and which has been called “mesmerizing” and “gripping” by Real Simple, and “daring and deeply empathetic” by The Millions.

Latest News from the Fab Four!

KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY Summer State of Mind is officially out in the world! Also her tour has begun and seeing you feels so extra special already! Her tour is a mix of some of her very favorite places—like Charleston, SC and Beaufort, NC, where she’s been so far—and a few new ones she’s been dreaming of visiting, like Gig Harbor and Seattle! Kristy is so grateful to everyone who has purchased a copy and is supporting her along the way!

MARY KAY ANDREWS took a ROAD TRIP to New York City and Savannah last week . . . (see how she did that?) Twenty-four hours in the Big Apple was a blur–but she did manage to get the author’s note for the ROAD TRIP audiobook recorded, and to squeeze in a fun bookish lunch and dinner. She and her husband (aka Tommy Toolbelt) managed to get their Tybee Island vacation rental home, Ebbtide, styled up for a tour with the online design magazine Homeworthy that should go live later this month. Now she’s back home, buttoning up plans for the May 31 launch party (buy tix here) and the big Friends & Fiction Live Savannah launch (buy tix here) on June 3 and the upcoming ROAD TRIP book tour, and getting in a SUMMER STATE OF MIND to promote Kristy’s brand new book. #buyherbookdammit

KRISTIN HARMEL is on her way back from PARIS(!) today (with stops in Normandy and the Champagne region!) and can’t wait to tell you all about it in next week’s newsletter! She also celebrated her 47th birthday this week (in Paris, with her husband and son) and is grateful for another year on this planet. She wishes Kristy a very happy book birthday and hopes you’ve all bought a copy of SUMMER STATE OF MIND!

PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY spent most of the week traveling and is now happy to be back home to her house and her novel in progress (she missed them both even as she just LOVED seeing and talking to readers and she LOVED being with Kristy in Charleston as she launched SUMMER STATE OF MIND into the world.

Friends & Fiction: Episode 319 – Kristy Woodson Harvey

Kristy Woodson Harvey

Ontnis episode, the full F&F family gathers to celebrate the launch of our very own “queen of the beach read” (Cosmopolitan), NYT-bestselling author Kristy Woodson Harvey’s new book Summer State of Mind, which is, of course, our May Pick of the Month! Kristy is the New York Times, USA TODAY, and Publishers Weekly bestselling author of fourteen novels, including Beach House Rules and the Peachtree Bluff series. A Happier Life is in development for film with MGM/Amazon and The Summer of Songbirds is in development for television with Hulu. There’s good reason why People magazine dubbed Kristy the “go-to for elevated beach reads.” Her latest—featuring a burned out NICU nurse, a former hot shot baseball player turned high school coach, an abandoned baby, and a batty aunt with long-buried secrets—whisks us away to the tight-knit coastal community of Cape Carolina and shows us that sometimes life conspires to bring us exactly where we belong. Join us as we celebrate Kristy’s launch in grand F&F style with special guests, a signature cocktail, games, and laughs galore. Trust us—you do NOT want to miss this one!

Latest News from the Fab Four!

KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY is so excited to be launching SUMMER STATE OF MIND on the show tonight and… heading out on tour TOMORROW. She can’t believe it’s already here! Just a reminder that she has stops in NC, SC, FL, IN, MO, WA, and CA, so go see her. Nothing means more to an author! Check out her full tour schedule here. She also wants to remind everyone that it’s the last call for SUMMER STATE OF MIND preorder freebies. And she sure would love it if you’d preorder to get your fun acrylic bookmark, signed book plate, magnet and readers guide! Check out the full details here. Most of all, she wants to thank you from the bottom of her heart for your years of support. It means more than words can say. She can’t wait to see you on the road!

MARY KAY ANDREWS hosted a fun(d)raiser garden party for a scholarship fund at her UGA alma mater’s Journalism School over the weekend, then took a redeye flight to NYC Tuesday to record the author’s note for the audio version of ROAD TRIP. She was delighted to get to chat with her longtime audio narrator Kathleen McInerney, and to have dinner with one of her all-time fave authors Elinor Lipman and a couple of other bookish friends before flying down to Savannah the next morning, just in time to help launch Kristy’s SUMMER STATE OF MIND on tonight’s F&F show. In the meantime, tickets are now available for the May 31 Atlanta launch party here, and for the F&F Live Savannah launch here. Much more to come about the ROAD TRIP book tour!

KRISTIN HARMEL is so excited to be launching Kristy’s SUMMER STATE OF MIND live on the show tonight…. She hopes the world is ready for this bold, brilliant, beautiful story, coming to bookstores everywhere on May 5! Kristin celebrated Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday by delivering the keynote address at the Tarpon Springs Book Festival, which is put on by independent bookstore The Gilded Page (where longtime Friends & Fiction member Nicole Fincher works—so we got to hang out a bit, too!). Her 2026 book tour for MEET ME IN PARIS is coming together, and she’s excited to announce her tour dates in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY IS SO EXCITED TO CELEBRATE KRISTY’s Summer State of Mind tonight. Patti loved everything about the NICU nurse and her love story. Swoon. Last week, Patti’s two worlds collided when she was in Auburn for Indie Bookstore Day and ALSO for her Auburn College of Nursing reunion (notice she left out how many years?). It was a wild few days and she feels so lucky that she’s had two creative careers that she loves with her whole heart. This week she’s headed to Charleston to do an event with Scary Mommy’s editor in Chief at Ladybird Books and another event in Lexington, KY. Check out her schedule if you’re near any of these!
